General Information

This species has very variable colours ranging from straw and white to grey and brown, generally with a sandy tint.

 

Pupates deep in sand.

Overwinters as Overwinters as an egg.
Both sexes readily come to light, sometimes in numbers.
Often found at rest during day

Forewing length: 14-18mm.
Foodplant(s): Sea Sandwort (Honckenya peploides), violets (Viola spp.), Early Hair-grass (Aira praecox), Sand Couch (Elytrigia juncea), Hound's-tongue (Cynoglossum officinale), Sticky Mouse-ear (Cerastium glomeratum), Sea Spurge (Euphorbia paralias)
Flying: One generation, late July-August
UK Presence: Resident, Possible Immigrant
National status: Nationally Scarce B

Habitat

Coastal sand dunes.
