General Information

The brown and white markings of this species show considerable variation.

 

Pupates underground.

Overwinters as Overwinters as a pupa.
Both sexes readily come to light, sometimes in numbers.

Forewing length: 11-14mm.
Foodplant(s): Aspen (Populus tremula), poplars (Populus spp.), sallows (Salix spp.), willows (Salix spp.), Hazel (Corylus avellana)
Flying: One generation, mid May-July
UK Presence: Resident
National status: Common

Habitat

Woodland, carr, fens, heathland and poplar plantations.

Regional Information

Recorded in 140 (51.9%) of the 270 2km squares of Huntingdonshire.
