General Information

This is a dull and nondescript species, as suggested by the vernacular name.

 

Pupates under loose bark or on the ground.

Overwinters as Overwinters as an egg.
Both sexes come to light but in small numbers only.

Forewing length: 15-19mm.
Foodplant(s): willows (Salix spp.), sallows (Salix spp.), poplars (Populus spp.)
Flying: One generation, late June-early August
UK Presence: Resident
National status: Local

Habitat

Wet woodland, fens, heathland and riverbanks.

Regional Information

Recorded in 57 (21.1%) of the 270 2km squares of Huntingdonshire.

Last recorded in June 2023
