General Information

This is a very variable species. It is very similar to A. ferrugana and can only reliably be separated by genital dissection.


Wingspan: 14-18mm.
Foodplant(s): birches (Betula spp.), Alder (Alnus glutinosa), Bog-myrtle (Myrica gale)
Flying: Two generations, June-July and September-May (hibernates)
National status: Common

Habitat

Woodland, heathland and scrub.

Regional Information

Recorded in 25 (9.3%) of the 270 2km squares of Huntingdonshire.

Last recorded in July 2021

Recorded date range (Adult): 29 February to 15 December
