General Information

This species is very similar to C. elongella. and genital dissection is usually required for a conclusive identification (although the presence of only one of the food plants is a useful indicator).

 

The larvae initially mine the leaves before constructing a shelter from a rolled leaf.

Overwinters as Overwinters as an adult.

Wingspan: 14-16mm
Foodplant(s): birches (Betula spp.)
Flying: Two generations, June-July and September-April (hibernates)
UK Presence: Resident
National status: Common
