General Information

Pupates in loose soil.

Overwinters as Overwinters as a pupa.
Both sexes come to light.
Often found at rest during day

Forewing length: 14-17mm.
Foodplant(s): Bracken (Pteridium aquilinum), Male-fern (Dryopteris filix-mas), Ivy (Hedera helix), Foxglove (Digitalis purpurea), willowherbs (Epilobium spp.), nettles (Urtica spp.), mallows (Malva spp.), currants (Ribes spp.), birches (Betula spp.), sallows (Salix spp.), oaks (Quercus spp.), ferns, broadleaved shrubs
Flying: One generation, June-July
UK Presence: Resident
National status: Common

Habitat

Gardens, heathland, fens, woodland, grassland and scrub.

Recorded in 51 (18.9%) of the 270 2km squares of Huntingdonshire.
