General Information

Similar to next species A. badiana. More characteristic chestnut-brown forewing markings. Chalk downs and scrubland where buckthorn grows, and damp wooded areas and hedgerows where alder buckthorn occurs.


Wingspan: 12-16 mm.
Foodplant(s): Purging Buckthorn (Rhamnus cathartica), Alder Buckthorn (Frangula alnus)
Flying: One generation, June-July
National status: Nationally Scarce B
