General Information

This species is not as common as the similar species A. hamana.

 

The nominate form has a yellow ground colour whereas f. ferrugana has an orange-brown ground colour. Both forms have a distinctive brown ring at the wing-tip.


Wingspan: 15-25 mm.
Foodplant(s): Black Knapweed (Centaurea nigra)
Flying: One generation, May-August
National status: Common

Regional Information

Recorded in 59 (21.9%) of the 270 2km squares of Huntingdonshire.
